About this Speaker

The three of us speaking on behalf of PLSN, a non-hierarchical volunteer collective, are all Euro-American/white cisgender women who work in non-managerial library roles in New York City. Although we've borne witness to the effects of the prison industrial complex on friends and family, we have not experienced incarceration and do not wish to speak from the vantage point of Black, Indigenous, and People of Color (BIPOC) who are targeted by the carceral system, or the primarily Black cis- and transgender women who have led the call for prison abolition. Rather, from our privileged positioning inside the world of LIS, we wish to illustrate the role libraries and library workers can play in information liberation through reimagining our relationships to each other with organizing.
